Closed account with no notification

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
CLOSED ACCOUNT WITH NO NOTIFICATION I have had CareCredit for over 10 years. Today when I got onto the site to make sure my promotional purchase finance charge was waived since I paid it off I find out that my ACCOUNT HAS BEEN CLOSED. I have been paying off my promotional balances and I am thinking they don't like that and only wanted to make the interest off of me. I have not been late and I have made two or three payments per month. Very DISAPPOINTED in Synchrony Bank Care Credit - you are NOT FAIR at all. I am sure that this will now affect my credit rating since my account was closed for NO REASON AT ALL.

Gas charges denied

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

A have their credit card which offers 5% back on gas. On a trip I am currently on it has been rejected every time.

I call in and after 3 transfers and 15 minutes I am told next time it will work just making sure no fraud. Of course I use a different card for my purchase after waiting 10 minutes for them to approve. Starting to think they just dont want to honor the 5% back on gas.

Never declined on any non gas purchase where the pay 1% back.

The last time the account manager tried to say maybe it was the Pilot station that rejected my card He forgot that he had already had me verify the amount he provide on the declined purchase. I asked him to cancel my card and he said call back laterto do it to besure I ready want to

May I ask what is the limit on your card and how close to it are you? Pilot stations are notorious for placing large holds on credit and debit cards for gas that don't drop off very fast.

To say they're doing it because they don't want to pay 5% cash back when they're probably raking in much more in interest from you and fees from the vendor is silly at best. Google it up...

Wow, I wonder if the CEO from Sychrony ever actually reads these complaints.

I have been reading for 45 minutes and have not found a positive review yet. Let me add another: Credit card application from *** Applied for a Lowe's card as was told I did not have one on record. I did have one and it turns out they mailed my new card to my old address-not my error-never gave them my old address. Now I am treated like a criminal by Synchrony. Some guy that barely spoke English stubbornly and repeatedly in robot mode told me I had to mail or fax documents proving who I was and proving my correct address. Another said he would mail me a code and I should call when I got it which never happened. Several others said card is on the way. Repeated calls each time a new story. This went on for a month, keeping me from making charges for my new home. Lowe's employees smirking away- they knew I had an account but refused to give me 5% off. Lowe's and Synchrony said I had no account but had no problem accepting $6000 in payments. Gave me a $10,000 limit but I could not charge anything. My credit is excellent- I have never been treated SO SHABBILY EVER in all my extensive financial history. I would spend my money elsewhere but Monett is a small town and Lowe's and Wal-Mart are about it, otherwise I would have dumped Lowe's and Synchrony immediately. Oh wait, Synchrony is on most of my credit cards I would also have to dump Sam's and many others I have and still may! I must have aged another 10 years in this one month of complete stress, anxiety, and frustration. Now I have a letter today from Synchrony intended to harass me about my Sam's account. Wow!

Why avoid Walmart, Synchrony Bank & Card Security

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I agree with this individual about Synchrony bank. Here is my story:

A short while ago, I was in the hospital for over three months.

I contacted Synchrony bank to let them know. Because I had also purchased card security on my walmart card, the entire bill enventually was paid off. Three days after the payment posted to my account, Synchrony bank decreased my credit line of over $2000 to a measly $100 credit line. I contacted them to ask why and was told they recently looked at the factors on my account and felt the need to decrease the limit on the account.

This is wrong. I’ve noticed that several individuals have experienced the same thing with their walmart card or other Synchrony bank cards.

My advice to everyone is to AVOID Synchrony bank overall if possible and ALL eyes need to be looking at the relationship of Synchrony bank and Card Security because it seems as though they may POSSIBLY have some type of connection here as to lowering folks credit lines if the Card Security makes a payment. It is noticeable that it seems to always happen after using their services.

I'm not sure what you expect them to do after you tell them you were in the hospital for 3 months and used insurance to pay off your note. No one in their right mind would allow you to have that much credit knowing this.

I'm also sure they looked into your credit as well to see what was happening there. After all that time in the hospital, I'll bet you were presented with a lot of bills. Bills you may or may not be able to pay off. They won't let you rack up $2K of debt only to turn around and put it in bankruptcy along with massive medical bills.

This is business, not personal. Stop taking it as such.

Who cares about a lower limit if you have cash to pay for your stuff? Yeah, I must work for (insert company).

Hi anonymous, It’s not personal, but if anyone has been with that company for over 10 years without issues then yes I guess it should be taken as personal. That’s like working in your job with possibly (insert company) for over 10 years as a valued employee and as soon you get sick, they send you into part-time status.

Just saying...would it then be personal? This message was to get folks to understand that those practices are not good practices for any business and folks need to know what they are getting into beforehand. This is why forums are created to get important messages across. And yes, business is business, but customers are what keep those businesses afloat.

So treat them right. If this situation was something that happened once...then okay...things happen. Keep the account under watch or limit s status for a specified period of time, but don’t punish folks for life happening beyond their control.

Ask yourself, what if customers gave up on the company because the company made one mistake or had one flaw? Would the business still stay afloat?

Unethical credit practices ruining my credit score.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I have always paid my 3 Synchrony Bank cards on time and more than minimum due. They abruptly lowered all 3 credit limits making it looked like I've maxed out the cards.

So I've started paying them down more and now as soon as I paid Old Navy card off, they closed my account without warning! They sent me a backdated letter stating I had too high credit balances and too many inquiries but Synchrony Bank is the only one inquiring into my credit and lowering my limits causing my credit score to go down drastically after I've worked so hard to improve my credit score! Now I worry if I Pay my other 2 Synchrony Bank cards off (Amazon Store Card and Walmart Store Card) they will close those accounts too! It's like they are ruining my credit on purpose!

Where are the Consumer Protection Lawyers to help us from this horrible bank?? I'm not the only one going through this, there are countless others having their credit ruined by this bank.

We need a class action lawsuit! Help!

An ethical lawyer will simply turn you away. Besides, if you and the other "class action" heroes whining here had lawyer money, it would be going to pay your bills on time so you don't have to play credit utilization games to boost your score.

Here's the thing, this bank and others like it ARE NOT in the business of boosting credit scores that you probably destroyed for whatever reason. They're in it to make money for their God, the shareholder. The second you do something like not use the card the way they want and sit on the credit limit, not pay it on time or they look in your file and see other nonsense going on, they will cut your limit and give it to someone who will use it or just shut you down. Utilization is only 30% of your score.

It will not boost your credit in the long run and is only useful if you're trying to something in the next few months like buy a car/house/re-fi etc. before you're found out and shut down. Your best bet is to get your credit reports, look for errors and correcting them. If there are no errors, you'll just have to wait it out and don't make any more credit mistakes in the meantime.

The bad news here is when you signed up for these one use, junk cards, you agreed to all of this. OK..."You must work for them."

Guest

They did the exact same thing to me! Reduced my credit limit, which dropped my credit score, then closed my account due to the drop in my credit score that they caused!

Guest

Exactly the same thing happened with my old navy card when i paid it in full. Amazon account recently dropped on me for a second time.

every time i pay a larger than minimum amount to reduce my balance and show a larger available credit they seem to do this. This time I called them on it. I was informed that The decision to lower my credit limit was made in March. This was three months prior to them actually cutting my limit causing an account with approx $200 head room to show up as over limit.

Here's the kicker: They did not inform me in March that they were going to decrease my limit. They lay wait for me to pay down near the limit ( they failed to inform me about) then said they had sent me a "letter of adverse action" on June 23rd. the day after I had made yet another payment above and beyond the minimum that was set for later in July. Every time I do some refinancing and try to reduce my debt to credit ratio, on revolving line, Synchrony Bank sucker punches my credit score.

The issue I see is that I should have been informed at the time of the decision, which was three months prior to actual action, instead of being kept in the dark ,until the action was taken. I will be contacting my lawyer to see if this practice of keeping me in the dark then damaging my credit score due to willful withholding of critical information about my account,Is actionable.

Exactly. I contacted a Attorney online recently but he didn't practice in my home state of Virginia.

I believe there is strength in numbers, let's keep spreading the word and posting online. I have posted on several outlets. By the way, I did some more research on this bank and they used to be GE Bank. GE got sued, big-time.

What I read us once they got fined big bucks for unethical practice, they changed their name to Synchrony Bank. Go figure. I'm now concerned about my excellent credit history with my PayPal credit card. Guess who just bought it out?

...Synchrony Bank. I was totally bummed when I got the letter in the mail from PayPal.

I believe this bank will get what's coming to them. If anybody is looking into a Class Action, count me in!

Very Upset Consumer

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I have a Lowe's credit card with Synchrony Bank and they have closed it due to the fact of negative information on my credit report from a consumer agency of TransUnion. I received an email stating that my account was closed when I call Synchrony Bank they said they closed it due to the fact of some information that was reported from another consumer credit agency. Without no notification not only with my Lowe's account closed for false information. I have nothing but problems ever since I received that Lowe's card. They are not helping the consumer they are destroying our credit. So they have closed my account and it shows closed on my credit report which now made my score drop 25 points not close because of non-payment paid on time but they closed it because of information received from another agency. I am dissatisfied and pissed about the situation and the unfair practices this business is done. I plan to file a class action lawsuit and do my research to find others that may want to join based on reviews I've read there's a lot of not happy with Synchrony Bank. As well as contacting consumer reporters news stations i-team investigations whatever needs to be done because this is an unfair practice.

High Interest Rates - Rip customers off

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I contacted Synchrony Credit card company to see about lowering my interest rate which is extremely high at 26.8%. Over the years I have perhaps missed a payment date maybe twice but other than that have paid on time and usually more than the minimum.

I have a good credit score so thought that deserves a few lower points to help pay down the balance. They would not even consider it. They do not care if you have a high balance thats what they want. 3/4 of my monthly payment goes to interest.

This is disgusting the way this bank takes advantage of good customers. I will be taking out a lower interest rate personal loan and paying off the balance and will NEVER EVER get a store card that has Synchrony as their provider. DISGRACEFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE.

BUYER BEWARE - ask about the name of the company and interest rates before you sign up a new store card. It isn't worth it.

They violate their own contracts.

I got a line of credit from Synchrony Bank under the Care Credit name for my sons laser eye surgery. The promotion is 0% if paid off in 24 months. They have been charging me $2.42 all of 2018. I have told them of this error and to credit me back the funds or I will report them to the CFPB. No response. They also have no grace period. Unheard of as my other credit cards do have a grace period. Good luck if you live in across the country from where they are located on getting your payment in on the due date. They will say it was late if you pay in the evening hours on your due date but it is the next day where they are. The amount I was loaned is $2,000. When I divide that amount by 24 months my payments each month should be $84. They keep saying my payments are $111 each month. At that rate in 24 months I will have paid them well over $2,600. Don't they know how to do basic math? Avoid Synchrony Bank if at all possible. THEY ARE LIARS, CHEATS, AND BREAK FEDERAL REGULATIONS DAILY!!!!!!

Unethical Company

Say no to synchrony. Terribly unethical company. I cancelled my card because I was told the first year was interest free. It isn't. Then, if you don't pay It off, the entire interest period that you supposedly received for free is lumped into one fee on your statement. They also skip sending payment notifications on first statement, and thereafter every other month. I complained, and they refunded me 1 month. I was generous in paying them off immediately, minus the 2 late fees they charged me. Highly unethical in obtaining extra fees and interest. Capital One is the way to go. (no issues with them since I've had their card, now for almost 2 years) Angry Angry

Worst Bank/credit card /CS /worse everything ever done business with

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Have Lowes, Wal-Mart, Discount Tire, PayPal, cards. All issued by Synchrony Bank.

Never thought to check reviews first. Now I know better. They are the worse customer service because they use overseas yeah India phone support. No problem if you get someone that can actually understand.

The ral problem is there system is screwed up, wither intentionally or just bad IT, web, programmers. Either way, PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS BANK, get 1 or 2 good credit cards from a major bank that's been around, that's hard too as they constantly sell or merge which is how Synchrony started. I know that can be hard & it's tempting when they offer 6 months or more free interest. But you will regret it because they will charge you anyway.

They also claim they can't e-mail you. Has happened to me 7 times on different accounts. I pay everything through my billpay online so I know payments are received on time. They seem to conveniently somehow not be able to contact me and send notices through the mail that I'm not enrolled in e-statements, or they can't contact me.

I've been researching more and see that is part of their way to scam people. I've been lucky but I see all the others that haven't been so now that I have a couple good credit cards I'm closing all my Synchrony accounts & strongly recommend others do the same.

Terrible card

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I’ve had nothing but issues with this card. It started about a year ago on Black Friday shopping.

My card was declined several times despite me calling customer service and explaining to them that I was indeed shopping. My most recent experience took place today when I called several times at the grocery store while my card was being declined. I was told that it was all set after reaching several representatives only to have it declined again. Do you not get this card.

If they ever suspect that you have purchased something they immediately freeze your account. If they ever suspect that you have purchased something online, they immediately freeze your account. They then text message you hours later to ask if this was your purchase. They don’t alert you or call you.

So if you don’t see that text message your card will merely be shut off and you will be embarrassed when you’re trying to make another purchase.

I would stay away from them all together. Not worth the hassle.

I’m appreciated card holder

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I have had my credit limit lowered while not ever being late on my payment, and paying more than the minimum due. I was told because I am carrying higher percentage balances on my transunion report I’m considered a risk.

How about looking at the big picture. I’m never late on any payments on any of my accounts. And not showing any sign of late history. Just because in my slow time of year my balances go higher, I’m a risk?

Computer algorithms and not human evaluations are going to hurt the world of credit. I would understand if I started to show a pattern that would make it necessary to lower my availability of credit, like making just the minimum for months, or being late. I have never had credit lowered by any other creditor other than synchrony, despite credit score fluctuations. 99% payment history apparently is not good enough.

Word to the wise, use your other cards first before getting a synchrony account. My Amex and cap one are amazing!
