Recent closure of Lowes credit card

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

On October 31, 2018 I received notice that my Lowes credit card acct was being closed. This action has caused me distress.

I am a long standing holder of several of your cards and have always paid on time and above the required payment. If your decision was based on a recent credit report. Let me assure you that the report was not accurate. I have taken steps to find out the problem.

I am disappointed with your actions and feel I have been abused for being a responsible card holder. Is there anything you can do to help me with this issue.

I want my Lowes card back. I have worked very hard to have a good credit rating and believe this action is just the beginning and will have a negative effect on my other Synchrony accounts.

Oh wow....If this was based on a credit report........... Sounds like you know something is on your credit that shouldn't be.

Clean it up and you won't have to pay credit utilization games to keep your score up. Get to work...

Lowering credit lines is normal procedure for Finance companies wishing to protect themselves, Lots of Store cards automatically cancel after 1 year of non-activity.. What's worse is if you actually use the darn thing and get hit with deferred-interest..

do you even know how they calculate interest on a deferred promotion plan & when it begins calculating at north of 30% ? YuP the BOLD 0% that lulls you to sleep like a snake charmer does to a cobra"disappears" in a ""time trap"" but the sometimes north of 35% sleeping in the back ground interest that started sucking up 1/2 your monthly payment on the exact same clock as the attractive 0% gets taking away like an Indian giver. Yes the exact same second the 0% started the 0% is on a string from pickpocket indian givers that advertise 0% in big bold print but in the sleeping back ground their steady daily compoundeding ridiculous interest rate that is buried in the sand waiting to strike like a cobra . Yes sand starts with the letter S just like the word small print but so does the word scheme, do you understand now or have I confused you like giant corporations do with the word "deferred interest" OR "special financing"?..

Sorry my friend tricky financing at its BOLDEST, different words same nasty monster.. Google Chi Chi Wu articles about deferred-interest she's a staff lawyer at the National Consumer Law Center but they do not work for consumers directly they're trying to fight this in Congress. If you want to file a complaint about deferred-interest go to Consumer Financial Protection Bureau ie CFPB.gov & fill out a complaint form to help them bring attention of these Horrors in front of Congress from the consumers point of view.. Yes the same Congress that claims they made their decision to keep deferred-interest because retailers requested to.

At least if they're going to keep it make the check out procedure foolproof because that's what they'll call you is a fool when you can't negotiate their time trap. Write to your congressman consumers have very little voice in the matter but if finance companies can slam us with that interest maybe we can save $0.50 for a stamp NOW Go apply for a Discover or Visa that does not use the deferred 0% noose like store card finance companies that like to call themselves Banks & trap old-fashioned consumers into the most modern abuse scheme of retail credit card today called "promotional plans".. Different name same monster, look up reviews for Synchrony & Comeity, they are the biggest culprits of entrapping consumers with promotional offers while hiding behind over 250 store names on a piece of plastic..

Bottom line just never apply for a store credit card that's backed by either of those two companies to avoid being belittled & ""never sign up for anything that says deferred-interest"".. it's a ticking time bomb

Thank you for that information I had no idea that when I paid and account down to zero which I thought looked good because I made all my payments on time forever that then it would automatically be closed after certain amount of months??? But I didn’t need it and I’m trying to pay off all my credit cards which I thought would help my credit score??? Whatever happened to the fact they’re paying me on time never missed a payment so I’m going to keep their credit card open in case they decide to use it? They don’t even take into consideration that something can be put on your credit report in air like a student loan that’s in default when it’s really not that it’s in forbearance! Unbelievable

Have had Walmart card since 2011. Credit line was 5,000.

Unfortunately overlooked 1 payment. Called immediately and made double payment. Was told I was ok. All payments 100% history.

After being told I was ok, they lowered my line to 800$.

Very very hurt. Trying to do right thing.

Unfortunately, Kroger MasterCard did the same thing to me back in the early to mid 2000's, as did Target, etc. Way back in the "old days" all you needed to do was pay the overdue amount and then any penalties and you were good as gold. However, as we've seen, not so any more.

Guest

Yup me too and I’ve complained for months they don’t care. Be careful I’ve made two payments and they said the payments didn’t go through because they didn’t have the correct bank account number but my statement says they took both payments.

I’m just trying to pay off the misly amount I owe and cut up the card.

Lost a customer for life. Bye bye.

Yup they did the same thing to me. I’m closing my account with Walmart they don’t care about their customers.

They are horrible you try to do the right thing and still get screwed by Walmart. Everybody misses a payment here and there.

It’s human nature. I didn’t even miss a payment and they did the same thing to me for no reason.

Closed account for no reason

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Today on 9/4/2018, i log into my Walmart credit card account to check balance. I notice my account has been CLOSED.

Funny how they closed it after i just paid off my $2,300 balance. Will not use them again for anything. Never had this happen with anyone else. The reason was they checked TransUnion, and didn't like something.

Funny, since my TransUnion score has only wen't up since this card was established. Customer service rep told me to wait for the letter in the mail and that would explain it. Funny how they can't give me a no BS answer right now.

Thanks Synchrony for shutting my card down right before Christmas shopping was about to begin. I guess other companies will be getting that money instead of you.

I had the same experience when I called synchrony. Except the woman I spoke to was African-American.

She was rude and would not listen to me. She kept repeating the same thing over and over and sounded like she was reading a script. They owe me a refund for charging me for debt cancellation benefits I was never eligible for over the last 12 1/2 years. She claimed I purchased it in my application.

But I had cancelled it a few months later when I realized I was not eligible. She ignored me. I told her I would talk to my attorney. I've been reading about others who were charged this fee and they were refunded thousands of dollars and that is what they owe me!

I am disabled and cannot afford to pay for things I can't or don't use! I live on a fixed income and barely making it. If anyone sees this and has had a similar experience please let me know.

CareCredit doesn’t care

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Wtf Synchrony Bank closed my Care Credit account due to inactivity, which dropped my credit score 45 points in a day! Then they say you can reapply. With my new lower credit score?! And add a hard inquiry to lower the credit score even further? And the interest rates on your other credit cards? Through the roof due your not-your-fault credit score!

I explained that I had to pay off dental work done at UMD (they don’t take CareCredit) andover $1200 of vet bills at Virginia Tech (they don’t take care credit) before I could afford the payments to get the rest of my dental work done at a CareCredit dentist.

Then the CS manager says, “Sorry about the inconvenience.” That’s NOT an inconvenience. Being late to an appointment because you hit unexpected traffic is an inconvenience. Having YEARS of pain and struggle as well as increased financial hardship caused to you because a company could not send out an email asking if you still want the account is NOT an inconvenience! It is a hardship that they expect customers to just bend over and take.

In a time when credit scores can impact what job you can get, what apartment you can rent, what you pay for homeowners’ and car insurance, and what interest rate your remaining credit cards are going to jump up to, it is appalling that a bank tries to say, “It’s in the terms of service.” The bankers know the customer’s life will be impacted for YEARS, through no fault of their own, and don’t care enough to even send out an email survey asking why the card hasn’t been used. It doesn’t matter to them anyway; consumers are a dime a dozen.

First, I don't care who you work for. Second, I don't have a problem with them closing accounts for non-use.

I have a problem with them doing it without trying to reach out to the customer first. I previously had a card with Wells Fargo that was closed for non-use. However, they sent me a letter ahead of time telling me it would be closed if not used by a particular date. They gave me the option of using the card and left themselves the possibility of making some more money from a customer they already had.

Synchrony Bank did not. I have since paid off both of my other accounts with Synchrony Bank and will not allow balances to build on those cards ever again. So, in this case, they've lost potential interest across three accounts by being too short-sighted to contact the customer.

How hard would it be to set up a form email that someone can program to be sent out every day to customers who haven't used their card in X number of days? Not hard at all, it existing customers actually mattered to them.

It would probably be easy for them to do that if that's how their business model worked. This bank appears to be going for the easy low hanging fruit in the form of store cards that can only be used at the stores.

You know that type, "do you want to save 10% today if you apply for this card?" This bank is probably not losing money because you quit them. Depending on the limits you had, they may have spread your money out over several people who are now delighted that their limits were raised thinking it's a badge of honor and a sign their credit has improved. They'll get paid and not think about you another second. It's up to the consumer to understand how these cards work and how to manage your credit.

They assume that if someone agreed to the terms of service, terms that by law they must make available and easy to read, one knows what's going on. Of course they understand/hope/know people don't bother to read the terms any more than 99.99% of the people who post here bother to READ the the terms of this site when they hit the agree button.

IF the rules are spelled out and someone doesn't bother to learn them, what happens afterwards is on the unwise consumer. It's not that hard to Google up why was my card cancelled, read it and learn from it for the next time while passing the word to family and friends so that they don't end up here crying.

Guest

What did you expect them to do if you weren't using the card. Google up the reasons you can be shut down or your limit lowered.

This bank or any bank for that matter are there to make money based on your use of the card. They're not there to help boost your credit through some utilization score game people like to play. They get a bunch of one use card(s) do nothing with them and enjoy a temporary boost in credit. Works until the bank wants to make money and cuts your limit or shuts you down and moves the available credit to someone new.

If you have to play that game, get a credit card that can be used for something other than a single store or a trip to the dentist. I'm sure that money came in hand when you needed that work...

Yes..... I must work for them....

Issue with payment

Posted payment via bank routing and account #. 2 days before due, 24 hours later rejected and then charged a late fee. No email for rejection. Noticed by chance when updating financial software with new card. Called in, excuse is that bank declined payment, never hit my account. They have supposedly processed and removed late fee. Let’s see in 48 hours.

Slow to remove Pending charges, Is interest being charged while they are pending????

I recently ordered from Walmart and used this card on Black Friday 2018. The second after the order went through, Synchrony Bank cancelled the order. I had the credit to use but the bank said that it was verifying information for security reasons. It has been pending on my account every since then. It takes Synchrony Bank more than the 48 hours to take off these pending charges. I have waited for 4 weeks in the past for pending charges to clear. Why is this bank so slow to take off these charges?? Are they charging interest on these charges while they are holding them as pending???

I always pay my cards on time, and pay them off early,as soon as I pay my card off they cancel them, now it looks bad on my TRW and is dropping my score.this has happen over the last 6 months! Instead of building credit with them they are hurting me, and for what because I paid them on time,or is it because of my age? I am 70 isn’t it against the law to decriminate because of age? First they offer you everything, then when you pay it off early they cancel your cards lower your credit score, and all this for being a good customer.

I have never made a late payment. I’ve never missed a payment. I’ve had cards for years. They give you credit and take it away for no reason. No other line of credit has ever done this to me. Now it maxes me out in areas I was not. Extremely angry this is ridiculous. My credit hasn’t changed and I don’t have any collections.

Closed account without authorization

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I received a letter from Synchrony stating they closed my account. I have not used my care credit card since Dec. 2016 however I need to have it as a back up. My dog has had multiple surgeries and the emergency vet demands payment up front and most of us don't have $7000 laying around. I have always paid my Care Credit card on time, in full, 100% and my credit rating is over 800. I talked to numerous idiots at Synchrony on 10/15/18 who claim they could not reinstate my card, that I could only reapply. It doesn't help me to have a credit card closed, as anyone who knows anything about credit knows, this hurts your credit as it makes the amount of credit you have available smaller. I did not authorize this closure of my account and am not OK with it.

Not sure what you expected them to do with you. You're sitting on a credit line for 2 years, not using it and you actually think they're fine with that?

Get real... No credit card company or bank is fine with card campers and utilization boosting clowns who don't use their cards and make them money These banks only have so much they can put on a credit lines. If you're not using your line, they'll either cut your limit or off all together and offer it to people who will use it and make them money. This is why they're in business.

Not to be a contingency plan or help your credit. Walmart moved from these people to Capital One and have to find ways to make up that loss. Giving someone else your unused line is probably how they plan to do it. P.S.

They don't need your permission to cancel your card and can do so at anytime without warning or notice. Read up on the Credit Act of 2009.

Just a bad bank

I contacted Synchrony to stop payments to a merchant (Nashville Tennessean) for delivery issues. This was after all means to cancel my paper and I mean all means. Synchrony's rep said the only way was to cancel my cc and they would issue a new one. I did and the rep refunded the months payment. The next month I received 2 months billing on my new cc. I called and wanted an explanation from the bank. I wanted to know who and how the paper got my cc information, my I wasn't contacted, why the refunded payment was charged again after I received notice my disputed claim was resolved?? So I've canceled my acc the 2nd time but she stated that wouldn't stop billing from the Nashville Tennessean, also a bad company!!

Can I give the rating lower than 1?

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

A few months back, I opened a credit card with Amazon so to get points as we shop almost everything from Amazon. When I got the card mailed to me, I immediately register and set up autopay.

A couple months later I got an email saying late pay and credit default will be reported. (Before this I never got an email from them regarding statements or anything. I signed up for paperless. Other banks send at least a notice that you get a statement.)

I went like what?

So I signed on to my account to check (besides their sites are horrible too. That's a whole separate issue.) I chatted with an agent about I just checked there's auto pay set up to pay in full why did this happened? So he said it's in effect next month (over a months after signing up for autopay). I went like what!

I set this up weeks ago. So, I asked for a credit on the late fee and interest after paying in full. He said he could not give me back the interest but will do late fee. What?!?!!!

If your system cannot handle autopay, why is this my fault besides that you will report me to have bad credit. It's not even one month late yet, what!!!! I sent a message to the bank to escalate this since the agent couldn't do it. The message from the bank said to me about the same thing that the autopay is affected in Oct and this is Sept.

and blah blah blah. I have several credit cards and never have anything like this happened to me. I really feel like I've been cheated and treated badly. How could this bank stay open?

Everyone here gave 1 star ... 1 star from hundreds of people. Apparently they don't care about their ratings. I will also write Amazon and how could Amazon chose them and did not see the ratings?

Just a very terrible feeling and experience. That's their customer service.

" why is this my fault besides that you will report me to have bad credit" It's your fault because you couldn't be bothered to manage your account and notice the payment weren't taken from your account. OR you did notice and thought you were getting over.

Either way, poor account management is totally on you.

Be glad you got the late fee returned. Count the interest charge as a lesson on how an adult does not manage their business.

That exact thing happened to me also. I’ve been a credit holder since 2004.

I’ve always used and paid more then the min payment. I was NEVER LATE! I have several other cards with them as well. Now they keep lower my credit lines on the other cards.

Which is killing my once great credit! As the consumer it’s hurt to fight against them. Customer service all but laughs in your face with oh well.

It’s a hurtful thing to work so hurt to get and keep good credit, all for a company to start closing and lower your crdt lines which continuously makes it seems I’m a crdt rise. This is INSANE how they do thing to customers with long history of good crdt.

Are you using those card regularly? IF not, this and probably one of the reasons they lower your limit.

They won't hold a credit limit open so you can keep your credit up. That not what they do...Stop expecting that from a bank.. They hold it open to be used and often.

If not, they'll lower your $$ and move it someone who will use it. If you're going to get a card from these people, make sure it's from some place that you can actually use it.
